Backing up a Windows server

Windows permissions in file-level backups

For each file and directory included in a backup, security information is backed up separately and then restored when the file or directory is restored.

Additional Windows limitations

The following table describes additional limitations that may apply to your Windows environment.

Windows Server 2016

The following Windows Server 2016 features are not yet supported:

Nano Servers (this deployment option does not install VSS components, which are required for agent backups)
Windows Containers
Shielded VMs
Storage Spaces Direct

Multi-point Services Role

The Multi-point Services Role is not yet supported and must be disabled to run agent backups.

Windows Storage Server 2008

Single Instance Storage (SIS) is not supported and must be disabled to run agent backups.
